There has been increasing recognition of the importance of addressing both medical care practices and interventions as well as non-medical factors and interventions for the mother-infant dyad in neonatal intensive care. This update addresses the evidence for medical and non-medical practices affecting the outcomes of infants born preterm who require intensive care.
