Hypertriglyceridemia in Youth

A previously healthy 15-year-old Hispanic male presented to the Emergency Department with a 2-day history of acute abdominal pain. Located in his lower abdomen, the pain was intermittent and exacerbated by being recumbent. On the day of admission, he experienced four episodes of vomiting, which contained no bile or blood. There were no prior episodes of unexplained abdominal pain, use of medications, illicit drugs or alcohol.
