Ultrasound guided catheter tip location in neonatal central venous access. Focus on well-defined protocols and proper ultrasound training
We read with great interest the report by Grasso and al1 regarding the use of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) to assess the catheter tip location in aNeonatal Intensive Care Unit. As pointed out by the authors, the advantages in the use of POCUS are maximal accuracy of tip location, avoidance of x-ray exposure, and use of a real-time, intra-procedural method which completely avoids the risk of primary malposition.
